1. Canada: The Northern Lights
The Northern Lights are one of the world's most stunning phenomenons, captivating hearts and minds for thousands of years. These dancing ribbons of light are created when Earth's magnetic field stops energized particles from the sun, which some people refer to as 'the holy grail of skywatching.' Canada is one of the best places to visit to see aurora borealis.
What time will the Northern Lights be visible in The Great White North? If you're anywhere near:
You'll see the aurora between 10 PM and 2 AM.
2. Mexico: Parícutin Volcano
The Parícutin Volcano is the world's youngest cinder cone volcano. Its unprecedented eruption lasted from 1943 to 1952, resulting in lava-covered structures and fascinating geological formations. You can rent a horse-guided tour of Parícutin for around $30.
Once you've reached the summit, you'll want to descend to:
- Viejo San Juan Parangaricutiro, which are ruins of the original church
- Restaurante Joskua del Parhikutin, one of the local's favorite dives
- Hotel Mansión del Cupatitzio, is a relaxing place to kick up your heels
If you're planning on hiking all 12 miles to the summit, don't forget to bring a jacket (even during the summer). The weather can get cold and windy fast!
3. Brazil: Harbor of Rio de Janeiro
Rio de Janeiro is steeped in natural wonder. It's also home to the largest bay in the world, surrounded by granite outcroppings like Sugarloaf Mountain.

4. Nepal: Mount Everest
Mount Everest needs no introduction. As the world's tallest mountain above sea level, it's a must-see on any bucket list.

- Café 4410, a local hotspot for delicious food and excellent company
- Hotel Everest View, where you can see the mountain right outside your door
- Everest Base Camp Trek, for the most adventurous visitors
Keep in mind that many parts of Nepal are rural and rugged at best. It's a good idea to come prepared and go with a friend who's familiar with the area.
5. Zimbabwe: Victoria Falls
Victoria Falls plummets 5,604 feet into the Zambezi River. Sometimes called 'The Smoke That Thunders,' it's a natural wonder you can't afford to miss.

- Main Falls
- Rainbow Falls
- Horseshoe Falls
- Eastern Cataract (the only one in Zambia)
You can see these falls from locations like:
