Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Minister of Finance Bill Morneau, announced on International Woman’s Day that the Bank of Canada has opened their polls to the public, so they can voice their opinion on which iconic woman should be placed on their new currency.
The new banknote is set for release into circulation in 2018. Starting on March 8 until April 15, all Canadians can visit the Bank of Canada’s website to submit their choice. Once you have made your nomination you can share it using the hashtag #bankNOTEable.
“Bank notes are cultural touchstones, and can be used to celebrate and reflect the diversity of our society. With this new note, we can honour the achievements of Canadian women and inspire future generations to learn more about the significant contributions women have made to our country,” said Bank of Canada Governor Stephen S. Poloz.
